Master of Arts in English Teaching Thesis Examination Policy
Amended by ETMA Faculty Meeting on August 5,2003
I.Submitting a Thesis Topic
1.Students submit an application while enrolled in the Thesis Writing course.
2.The “Thesis Topic Application Form” and “Thesis Advisor Resume” may be obtained from the department office or downloaded from the website of Office of Academic Affairs. After being approved by the thesis advisor and the department chair, students should submit the forms to the department office at the end of July of each year. (Those who wish to have an external teacher as their thesis advisor must first obtain approval from the ETMA Committee.)
3.Students who need to change their proposed topic may do so by resubmitting their applications at the end of each March or September and indicate “Change of Thesis Topic” in red color on the upper right-hand corner of the form.
II. Registering for Thesis Examination
1.Graduate students may register for the thesis examination "any time during the semester"
on the condition that they have completed the thesis at the time of application and that their thesis proposals have been evaluated and approved.
2.The following documents must be submitted when registering for the thesis oral defense:
a.One copy of the “Graduate Degree Examination Registration Form” (available at the Graduate Program Office or via download from the website of the Office of Academic Affairs) which has been completed and signed by the thesis advisor.
b.Three bound copies of the completed thesis.
III.Instructions on Thesis and Thesis Summary
The Thesis must be written in accordance with the “Thesis Format” as set out by the ETMA Program. Applications who do not follow this format will be rejected.
2.Thesis Summary Writing
The thesis summary should include information of the research purpose, relevant materials, research method, research contents, and research results.
1.The thesis examination is held 3-6 weeks after submitting the application .
2.After the oral examination, graduate students must revise their thesis based on the oral examination committee’s comments and submit it to the department chair and thesis advisor for review and final approval.
V.Submission of Thesis and Applying for Leaving school
1.Before leaving school, students should upload the thesis onto the web of NCCU according to the standard format as laid out by the school. (Students reserve the right to authorize the release of their thesis to National Library and National Science Council.
2.Submit two copies of their thesis to the ETMA Program and two hard-back copies to the Collecting Section of the library.
3.Students who have passed the thesis examination should pick up an “Application Form for Leaving School” from the Registration Section and obtain the official stamps from the ETMA Program Office and relevant sections.
VI.The policy stated herein is to be implemented or revised upon approval by the ETMA Program Meeting
